On March 4, 2025, Rockstar Games released a free upgrade for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, which offers numerous improvements and new content.
The major GTA V PC update 2025 has been officially available since yesterday – and we naturally took a look at the free upgrade straight away. With this step, Rockstar Games has released numerous improvements and new content for all PC players, bringing the game technically and content-wise up to the level of the console versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our impression after the first day: This update brings a breath of fresh air to Los Santos!
The graphical improvements are immediately noticeable. With ray tracing for ambient occlusion and global illumination, the game world looks much more realistic. Especially when the time of day or night changes, you can see how much the lighting and shadows benefit. A lot has also been done under the hood: the update brings support for modern technologies such as NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR1 and FSR3 as well as DirectStorage, which drastically reduces loading times in particular – provided you have an SSD installed. We noticed significantly faster loading times and switching between story and online mode is noticeably quicker. There is also the new Dolby Atmos support, which provides an even more immersive audio experience. Anyone playing with a good headset will notice the difference immediately.
GTA Online has also received many exciting new features in the update. We are particularly pleased about the access to Hao’s Special Works, where there are not only new vehicles, but also exclusive tuning options. The HSW races and time trials provide a fresh competitive spirit. The update also introduces daily challenges such as wildlife photography – a creative idea that immediately grabbed us. Photographing animals in Los Santos and collecting rewards for it? A nice change from the classic gangster routine!
The new career progression system also makes it more transparent what we have already achieved in our career – and what is coming up next. Those who also use the GTA+ subscription will once again receive special bonuses and benefits in the new PC version.
An important note that we do not want to withhold: There are now two separate versions of GTA Online on the PC – the previous version and the new, technically revised version. Both run in parallel, but cross-play between the versions is not possible. So if you want to play together with friends, you should make sure that everyone is on the same version.

Unser Fazit nach dem ersten Tag mit dem neuen PC-Upgrade: Rockstar hat mit diesem Schritt genau das geliefert, was sich viele gewünscht haben. Technisch wurde das Spiel deutlich modernisiert, und auch der Inhalt von GTA Online wurde sinnvoll erweitert. Wir haben richtig Lust bekommen, wieder tiefer in Los Santos einzutauchen – und sind gespannt, welche Updates in Zukunft noch auf uns warten.
